Today I learned that the 1955 film adaptation of Animal Farm was produced by the CIA as anti-Communist propaganda. The original ending, where the farm animals looked at the tyrannical pigs and exploitative humans, and found it “impossible to say which was which” was changed. The film completely omitted Orwell’s final criticism of capitalism, leaving only the pigs standing at the end.
